France vs England 20th March Paris Foden to start

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Ben Foden getting his start, well deserved and long overdue, he’s the only England player to catch the eye of the France defence coach. His reason, its impossible to plan a defence against the way he plays especially with the likes of Croft on his shoulder, that’s a nightmare for defence coaches and players. Here’s hoping…

Cloning, Sheep and Spring

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

My neighbours are coming to the end of lambing and I was looking at the new arrivals twins and triplets. It got me thinking about cloning and what has happened since Dolly the sheep. I have to say all sheep look the same to me.

I saw Caryl Churchill’s A Number an original work published in 2002 in London in association with The Royal Court Theatre. In fact I saw it twice but then I would, family and all that.

A Number was written during a time when cloning was frequently in the news. Dolly the sheep was cloned not too long before, human embryos were being created in the U.S. and at Advanced Cell Technology, they cloned a kitten.

These events sparked moral controversy among people around the world raising the question of how far human cloning should be taken.

The play debuted at The Royal Court Theatre in London on 23 September 2002. The production was directed by Stephen Daldry and designed by Ian MacNeil and starred Sir Michael Gambon and Daniel Craig. The play won the 2002 Evening Standard Award for Best Play.

Where were you when ……. died?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

There was and still is a lot  comment  on the death of Michael Jackson, and where you were when you heard about it. Well truth is I don’t know and can’t remember when it was. But I can tell you exactly where I was when  John Lennon died. I was in Cambridge with young lady who has been my wife for 20 odd years. Then in the music world – deaths there’s been a few to many to mention,  there was Hendrix, Janis J and even Buddy Holly, but John’s death was more personal. Not only did he and the Beatles music define our generation but I come from Liverpool went to Quarry Bank, saw them at the Cavern and other venues and him at the Art School and local pubs. I was also in Hamburg when they were there and shared a few drinks while they were on their break at the Star Club. My friend Tony Tyler ex NME wrote about that time. A year later I was in New york when they arrived and recall Murray the K  lauding their music and getting laid on the tenuous connection

To me when John Lennon died, something of the music really did die. Guess that just shows my age
